The Best Campaign Creation Tool

I use Matt Colville's My Campaign Sheet constantly. Over the past two months, I've run a couple dozen Burning Wheel one-shots. Each time, I randomly populated the sheet via the donjon tool and used it to establish a situation. I've even used this method to establish new situations in my long-running Burning Wheel campaigns. It hasn't failed me yet!

Keep in mind, never use everything on the sheet, and often repurpose content as needed. It's a great source of grist when you approach it as an improvisational aide.

In case this sheet gets lost to the aether, here's what's on it:

  • World name
  • What is this area called?
  • What is your starting town called?
  • What is the name of the local inn?
  • Who do we meet in that inn?
  • What is the name of the main road?
  • What is the local river?
  • A local forest
  • The nearby hills
  • Two nearby villages
  • A distant city
  • Who rules this area?
  • Who are the town elders?
  • What do the locals think about Elves?
  • Dwarves?
  • Halflings?
  • Humans?
  • Who is the god of knowledge?
  • Life?
  • Nature?
  • Storms?
  • War?
  • Who is the trickster god?
  • Who's the local expert on the arcane?
  • Religion?
  • Area history?
  • Area geography?
  • Who are the local low-level monsters?
  • Slightly farther off mid-level monsters?
  • Who is the local evil boss?
  • What do they want?
  • What will happen if they get it?
  • Everyone in the world knows...
  • Very few people know...
  • No one knows...
